aussie hoops kings rookies

The South Geelong Kings are coordinating a new and exciting beginner entry program with Aussie Hoops and its affiliated organisations at the Montpellier PS indoor gym in term 2 2026 (dates to be confirmed). Your registration will be needed for contact details, all participants who continue with our rookie squad training will be offered a place in one of our teams with a view to forming new teams to enter the following season competition. There will be a cost for these sessions, however with no obligations or expectations, just bring a ball and drink bottle, and a great attitude!

Age Group tryouts - Boys

The 2026 winter season tryouts for age groups listed below will only go ahead pending coaches notification. Links may be used to register for these tryouts, pending notification, otherwise a contact will be provided. If attending tryouts, please ensure you bring drink bottles, reversible tops if you have them, and appropriate basketball attire.

Parents are asked not to be in the gym for the designated time during tryouts, please drop off and pick up as necessary unless otherwise specified by the coaches. This has been found to be best practice and the fairest way to conduct tryouts.​

Tryouts are generally for Champs/Div1 teams, but those that do not make those teams or are better suited at an easier level will still likely be offered a team, so please feel welcome to attend our tryouts. Other tryouts are subject to availability and club requirements.

​

​All sessions will be held at Montpellier PS, Mt Pleasant Road, Highton.

hultgren coaching clinics

The SG Kings is proud to offer the following two coaching sessions, to be run by former Supercat player and renowned basketball coach Bruce Hultgren. Session one is from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm Sunday 14th September at the Montpellier PS gym with session two following from 2:00pm to 3:00pm on the same day & location.

What you can expect: All club coaches and those wanting to learn are welcome to both sessions, the first session is for basketball coaches of any age and experience. Bruce will run through skills including FocusProShot techniques and basketball drills for junior coaching in preparation for session two later in the day where junior participants will attend and coaches are welcome to return and watch a demonstration of what they have just learnt with junior participants live on court.

A small fee for each session (coaches only for session one) is attached to each registration (see below) & you will only be required to register for one or the other, this helps your club fund the clinics.

​

Registrations are open now, so come join in on the fun and learn to coach or learn something new, and for the juniors, come and participate while learning some excellent techniques to improve your game.
